about . . .

  • Readings and Book signings

Anne gives readings from her published poems, essays, folktales and children's books at book clubs, libraries, bookstores, schools, conferences and other events.  Contact Anne about setting up a successful reading and book signing for your group.
  • STORYTELLING

An experienced storyteller, Anne specializes in stories from the Appalachian region, and also offers programs of stories from around the world.  Anne will be happy to work with you in planning an exciting storytelling experience for your group,  large or small, children or adults.
  • School or library visits

As a children's book author, Anne has visited many elementary schools and libraries, reading from her published picture books and talking with young audiences about their own writing.
  • Writing workshops

Anne has taught writing workshops in a variety of settings,  specializing in writing for children and in creative nonfiction. Anne has taught on the creative writing faculties of the MotesBooks series "A Retreat of One's Own," the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts, Lexington's School for the Creative and Performing Arts, the Appalachian Writers Workshop at Hindman Settlement School, the Kentucky Arts Council's Artists-in-the-Schools programs, the Mountain Heritage Literary Festival at Lincoln Memorial University, and at many other schools, libraries, workshops and conferences.

  • Plays

In addition to her one-woman show, The Lone Pilgrim: Songs and Stories of Aunt Molly Jackson, Anne has written other plays which have been widely produced and which are available for production.  Passing through the Garden, which is available either as a one-woman show or as an ensemble piece, is based on the life and work of Kentucky writer and AIDS activist Belinda Mason. This play was featured at, among other venues, the Kentucky Onstage series at Georgetown College and at the Barter Theatre's Festival of Appalachian Plays and Playwrights.  A stage version of The Adventures of Molly Whuppie is also available, developed at Louisville's Pleiades Theatre.
  • Music

Anne performs traditional Appalachian hymns and ballads. As "The Gabbard Sisters," she and sister Jessie Lynne Keltner sing and play songs from the Carter family repertoire, as well as other country and mountain songs. With George Ella Lyon and Kate Larken, they have performed their original songs as "The Cosmic Mamaws."  Anne's readings, storytelling and other performances often include traditional Appalachian music.
